Over $26,000 Awarded to First Responders and Health Nonprofits in Curry County in 2020
Curry Health Foundation award recipients had no big event to celebrate this year; covid 19 meant awards were presented individually, outside in the fog, but no one seemed to mind. With the major fundraiser cancelled this year and with an emergency covid response grant added to the mix, Curry Health Foundation is just relieved to be able to help out the health community at all this crazy year. Most 2020 grants went to first responders: Curry County Emergency Management will purchase AED units for the courthouse annex; Pistol River Fire District uses their grants to replace old, unsafe AEDs that are no longer serviceable; Search and Rescue volunteers will soon have new modular rescue packs and protective gear that they would have to had pay for out of their own pockets without our grant. All to keep you safe and protected should you have an emergency.
Curry General Hospital is especially thankful to be able to buy air-purifying protective gear. Very timely, as covid cases continue to rise. Our dedicated nurses and hospital staff are now safer. Safety is also assured for school students who now attend remote, online courses at the Curry Public Library thanks to a grant to Friends of the Curry Public Library. Mental health services have been enhanced by awards to the Sheriffs Juvenile Justice department and the Curry Homeless Coalition.
Curry Health Foundation initiated a whole new grant this year, open until funds run out, to support the fight against the secondary effects of covid virus on vulnerable populations. Grants have been given to the Curry Community Center, Chetco Community Public Library, Oasis Shelter, Wally’s House and others to increase services for the most needy in Curry County.
